Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Having successfully polarised opinion between those who thought they were a deeply sinister claque of Balkan neo-fascists, and those who had concluded that Laibach were an amusing but rather silly situationist prank, Laibach trumped all expectation and belief with Let It Be: a cover version of the entire Beatles album of the same name, with the exception of the title track. The sleeve was also a pastiche of the original: Laibach's four core members glowering into the middle distance with the grim determination of Eastern Front foot soldiers determined to see out the Russian winter and storm Moscow when the snows melt; inside is a grisly black-and-white representation of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. There may well have been some sort of point to it all--Laibach always gave the impression that there was, even if it was likely to be lost on anyone outside the group--but it hardly matters. Let It Be is one of the most hilarious albums ever made. "Get Back" is rendered in Laibach's trademark style, reworked as a gruff, Germanic marching song--anyone who can suppress laughter when the singer barks "Get back, Jojo" as if calling troops to attention is either dead or, in fact, German. "Two Of Us", "Dig A Pony" and "For You Blue" are similarly riotous fun, and "The Long And Winding Road" is barely recognisable, a ghostly, atonal and oddly beautiful lament, back-dropped by ominously chanting crowds. The crowning achievement, however, is a startlingly gorgeous "Across The Universe", delivered absolutely straight-faced by an angelic female chorus. That Laibach are as mad as trombones is beyond doubt. But they are never boring. --Andrew Mueller

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking The Beatles to higer places!, 1 Mar 2002
By A Customer
It is not a new trend - releasing a cover track or an entire cover album. I first heard Laibach in an obscure radio show, that no longer exists. It was their cover to Two of Us. Fortunately, I was close to a tape recorder and instantly hit the record button.
I immediately rushed and bought the album.
Laibach's Two of Us, is a great demonstration of Laibach's craetivity and control of many music styles and musical interpretation. It is combined of classical and operaic fundementals, martial rhythms, heavy metal, and overpowerful excesive singing. You can laugh and enjoy the humour, or tremble with the power of songs.
The Beatle are a milestone - Laibach are a gemstone.
A great introduction to Laibach!

4.0 out of 5 stars Laibach and Let it Be..., 25 Mar 2007
By Howard Change (Fishbourne) - See all my reviews
Is this a joke? Who cares! Laibach have deconstructed each track - apart from Let it Be which doesn't feature - and created something which fuses a multitude of styles. It's funny, inspiring, moving and always interesting. Worth buying. I've had this album on vinyl since 1988 and I'm just getting into it. I used to think it was rubbish, but then I hadn't heard past the first track on side 1. Then I listended to the whole thing and I can't get it off the turntable! Imagine a German Beta Band. That's Laibach as far as I can tell. I will be looking for other stuff by them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dismembering the Beatles, 23 Nov 2004
By Slowhand (Bangkok, Thailand) - See all my reviews
I bought this on the basis of an outstanding review. Of course, it may have been written by a member of the band's family. To respond directly to the review, these guys have some talent but the word "creative" is misused, particularly in parody. The music is 'good in parts' but self indulgent, over produced and often reduced to a pedantic demonstration of musicianship. Neither milestone nor gemstone, you will find them rather abrasive; rather more like a pumice stone. Frankly, the only genius here is to be found in the original Beatles score. You can laugh at the 'power' of the songs or tremble at the humour. Either way, avoid it.
